Lil Baby has been fairly busy musically over the past year and change. He dropped two separate projects in 2025, with December's The Leaks being the most recent drop. But beyond the music, a new video posted to Baby's official YouTube page shows that the Atlanta rapper has other big visions, this time in community development.

This recent video, labeled as a "WHAM Vlog," sees Lil Baby going through his old neighborhood in Atlanta, Oakland City, with his sons. While there are moments where Baby is seen interacting with locals and taking pictures, the video mainly shows him visiting a few properties that he's bought in the area.

The vlog was a cool new angle for fans to see Lil Baby and hear what he's about beyond the music. Viewers not only got to see the literal properties that Baby has bought for redevelopment, but also hear his reasoning for doing so. So, what exactly has led Lil Baby to reinvest like this?

For Lil Baby, reinvesting in his old neighborhood is personal

Lil Baby's past definitely plays a role in his decision. He gets into it with one property, saying, "It was times when this was abandoned, and I still was standing here while it was abandoned. No lights, no water, no nothing. Just me and the smokers."

Baby's history in the area matters, but it's made evident that his redevelopment plans are driven by more than nostalgia. Lil Baby talks about outside forces buying up land in the neighborhood, and several times, he points out new developments in the surrounding area.

From Baby's perspective, he wants ownership in the neighborhood to come from those with some actual history tied to it. He includes himself in that when he says, "They trying to take our neighborhood, I gotta put my foot down, know what I'm saying? I gotta have me some. Save the streets."

Finally, Lil Baby has his family in mind with these investments. He mentions buying specifically for his son, and having his two boys present throughout the video hammers that point home even further. It's something tangible for him to give to them going forward.

In summary, Lil Baby is redeveloping these properties because of his history with them, what he sees happening around the neighborhood today, and what he wants to happen in the future of both the neighborhood and his family. It truly encompasses his past, present, and future.

Lil Baby has some thoughtful motivations behind investing his money into the Oakland City neighborhood, and that's good to hear. Not all artists have the same mentality when it comes to spending. Hopefully, in the future, Lil Baby's investments will bear fruit and ultimately fulfill his vision.
