What did he say?

Rolling Stones fans should be excited about the band dropping a new album on July 10. The first releases from the forthcoming Foreign Tongues are quite good. The group has also hinted that while a new tour won't happen in 2026, a new run of shows could happen in 2027.

Guitarist Keith Richards, after previously hinting at a potential tour next year, might have pumped the brakes on that possibility. The Rolling Stones might do some shows, but a full-blown tour might not be in the future.

"I don’t know if tours are possible," Richards told Uncut. "It’s the travelling that takes it out of you. But I do see the possibility of us doing a residency somewhere. Wherever it is, London, New York, Paris, anywhere. I’ll play Rome! But I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to throw some shows together in a new format."

Keith Richards hints the Rolling Stones might not tour in 2027

Mick Jagger has also recently said the band isn't going to tour in 2026, but definitely could in 2027. Maybe this is simply part of selling the new album, as it gets fans excited about all possibilities. But the band has continued to tour throughout the decades.

What Richards might mean is that the band is going to follow the same trend set by Harry Styles and Taylor Swift, among others, who tour globally, but not necessarily many cities. Instead, they play several shows in one city before moving on to another.

When Richards mentions different cities, maybe the plan in 2027, without the band completely confessing to it, is that next year the Rolling Stones will do a run of shows, but they will basically be destination vacations. If you wanted to go to Rome, for instance, now you can and see the band perform, too.

Of course, that's certainly not anything official. The truth is that the band members are getting older, and while they still maintain a high level in concert, it could simply be that they no longer want to take months out of their personal schedules to entertain the masses when they can simply keep making records instead.

As long as we are getting new music or a few shows a year, fans of the band should be content. The flipside is that they are done, and that would certainly be a sad day. We aren't there yet. On July 10, Rolling Stones fans get the gift of a new album, Foreign Tongues.
