The members of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have to be close friends. There is no way people could work so close together, especially in an artistic venture, and not need a break. Not with this band.

The Australians formed in 2010, and most of the members have been with the band since at least 2011, and have produced an astonishing 27 albums, three EPs, and 73 live albums since. But they haven't quite released an album quite like their next one.

The lads have made metal, jam band, psychedelic rock, prog, electronica, and anything else you can mostly think of, but not a pure techno record. That's what the new album will be.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard appear on the verge of releasing a techno album

The record is finished, and the band dropped a teaser on Instagram that shows a mesh of wires connected to synths overlaid with techno sounds. No release date has been given for the album, which also doesn't have a known name yet. One can expect the project to be released in 2026.

It likely won't appear on Spotify, though. The band pulled its music from the streaming platform last year in opposition to Spotify founder Daniel Ek. The issue isn't directly music-related, however. Ek has invested in Helsing, which is a company that creates drones for military use as well as AI software.

Instead, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have made their albums available on Bandcamp, and fans can purchase the records for whatever they can afford. In other words, the band understands that not every devotee can spend $20-30 on scooping up every record the group has released.

This is especially true for all the live records, but what is certain is that King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have proven that no matter which subgenre they use to create an album, it's going to be great. (That might even be true of a potential bluegrass album that some fans are speculating they are making with Billy Strings.)
