Music of the 1970s is tipped to be significant in iconic festival’s 2025 lineup

It’s never too early for speculation on Summer festival line ups. In doing so it seems we could see some top 1970s stars bringing their music to one of those festivals.

It’s not even Christmas yet, so it feels odd to be looking ahead to possible lineups at 2025 Summer festivals. But there is plenty of speculation about already over who will take to the stages. For one huge iconic festival, there are strong indications that we’ll see some top 1970s artists performing their hits live.

Glastonbury is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday, June 29, next year, and the Eavis family organizers will want to make a huge statement with their lineup. Last year perhaps wasn’t as spectacular as they’d have liked with Coldplay, Dua Lipa, and Sza taking the big headline spots. They are great artists but it wasn't quite the full Glastonbury style. The festival will take a scheduled break in 2026 so there's a chance to make a big impression in 2025 before that kicks in.

With the 1970s being such a strong period for music there could be an attempt to weave that amongst the more current acts and create a very broad lineup. Possible contenders to provide that are Neil Young and Stevie Wonder. Both are hotly tipped to appear on the main stage there next year. Wonder could be one of the headline acts. Of course, both have had their music span other decades too, but there were real peaks for them in the 1970s

Classic 1970s rockstar ready to take on legend role

More than a contender is Sir Rod Stewart, another music icon of the 1970s and probably every other decade, too. He has been speaking publicly about having the Legends slot there next summer. Stewart would be perfect for that with his lengthy catalogue of hits and ability to have a party almost anywhere.

Other artists are seen to be hit favorites for appearance, too. Female powerhouses such as Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigoand Charli XCX are reportedly being scheduled for various slots and stages. Let’s then add in the likes of The 1975, Simple Minds, Eminem, and maybe even Ed Sheeran as possible options.

There’s also The Deftones who have a Glastonbury dates gap in their early summer tour in the UK next year. Huge rockers Muse have had speculation that they might turn up to play a surprise and unscheduled set, along the lines of The ChurnUps/Foo Fighters scenario from 2023. However, it’s hard to understand how much of a surprise and unscheduled that will be if it’s in the planning stage right now.

There’s a long way to go until we see formal lineups appearing. Stewart is the only real certainty and the rest have varying degrees of confidence about their possible inclusion. No doubt we’ll hear plenty more artists being linked. Taylor Swift anyone?
