A new favorite might be released.

April is top-heavy with new album releases. The first Friday is full of likely gems, but then there are far fewer releases the rest of the month. The best new album, though, might be coming out in the final week.

There is undoubtedly going to be something for everyone. If you love Afrobeat, and you should, one of the best artists in the genre will have a new album. If you like shoegaze, a re-named band will have one of those records out, too.

What we do not have this month is the anticipation of a new album from Taylor Swift. She released The Tortured Poets Department last April. That means musical artists in April of this year will have much more room to stand out.

Full album release schedule for April 2025

April 4

  • Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong
  • Craig Finn - Always Been
  • Dirty Projectors, David Longstreth & s t a r g a z e - Song Of The Earth
  • Djo - The Crux
  • Elton John and Brandi Carlile - Who Believes in Angels?
  • Florist - Jellywish
  • L.A. Witch - DOGGOD
  • Momma - Welcome To My Blue Sky
  • Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - Death Hilarious
  • Sarah Mary Chadwick - Take Me Out To A Bar / What Am I, Gatsby?
  • Sleigh Bells - Bunky Becky Birthday Boy
  • The Ophelias - Spring Grove
  • The Waterboys - Life, Death And Dennis Hopper

This might be the best week ever in terms of unique group names coupled with album titles. Sleigh Bells, a duo that works in many genres, goes all-in on the alliteration. Of course, the album of the week (and maybe the month) is by Elton John and Brandi Carlile. There is no way that it cannot be good.

April 11

  • Bon Iver - SABLE, fABLE
  • Mamalarky - Hex Key
  • Nell Smith - Anxious
  • OK Go - And The Adjacent Possible
  • Röyksopp - True Electric

Bon Iver always releases gems, but one might hope that OK Go tries to replicate their video for "Here It Goes Again." That was extremely fun and worth being done again.

April 18

  • Beirut - Study Of Losses
  • CHIME OBLIVION - CHIME OBLIVION
  • Divide and Dissolve - Insatiable
  • Julien Baker & TORRES - Send A Prayer My Way
  • Superheaven - Superheaven
  • Tunde Adebimpe - Thee Black Boltz

CHIME OBLIVION has a touch of Bow Wow Wow involved. That will make sense when you hear the record.

April 25

  • BIG|BRAVE - OST
  • Deerhoof - Noble And Godlike In Ruin
  • Femi Kuti - Journey Through Life
  • Ghost - Skeletá
  • Jensen McRae - I Don’t Know How But They Found Me!
  • Patrick Wolf - Crying The Neck
  • Samia - Bloodless
  • Self Esteem - A Complicated Woman
  • Sumac and Moor Mother - The Film
  • Sunflower Bean - Mortal Primetime
  • The Moonlandingz - No Rocket Required
  • Viagra Boys - viagr aboys
  • William Tyler - Time Indefinite

Kuti has a deep catalog. If you have not listened to the Afrobeat star, you should. But the guess here is that Ghost will have the best record of the month. Tobias Forge never lets us down (and there is a new Papa!).
