There’s been talk of a new album from the 1970s rowdy rockers Faces for a while now. A new interview with one of the band suggests it’s getting closer to reality. We may have to remain patient for a good while yet. But if we are, then we might also get a visual reward, too.
The story of a new Faces album picked up credibility some four years ago when Ronnie Wood let the possibility slip out in a 2021 interview. At the time he talked of him, Kenny Jones and Rod Stewart meeting up to record some new songs for their old band.
Wood has a studio at his home that the gang of three were using, alongside Wood and Jagger working on some Rolling Stones music. I guess there might have been a party or two at the time, too.
Fresh update on a new Faces album being recorded
Although Faces broke up in 1975 as Stewart’s solo career took over, these three remaining band members from the original lineup have remained close friends for many years. So it’s entirely credible and wouldn't involve a tense or nervy reconciliation.
The album's story got some backing from Stewart the same year, when he estimated that around 15 songs had already been laid down and highlighted the need for patience in turning them into an album.
It’s been a long while since then. Both Stewart and Wood have been busy with other music, new albums, and touring, which makes it a fair excuse or reason. The album, though, is back as a talking point, highlighted by a new interview with drummer Jones. He’s been talking to The Telegraph (paywall) and gave an update, promising more to come.
Jones spoke of around 11 songs being in place, having been recorded at RAK Studios in North London. He also mentioned that Jools Holland has guested on one of the tracks. Holland and Stewart did collaborate on an album, Swing Fever, which they released together in 2024.
It’s fewer songs than Stewart mentioned, but both he and Jones noted that they may not all fit with a new Faces album. In terms of timing, there are no specific dates yet, except for at least 2026, as Jones mentioned Wood and Stewart's other commitments.
"I can’t see it coming out this year," "But I can see it coming out next year. Everyone’s doing different things. We do little snippets [of recording] here and there. Then all of a sudden, The Stones are out [on tour] again, Rod’s out again…"
The interview also hints at using footage of the band from 1972 alongside an album as part of a possible documentary. That could be the additional reward, if we can wait long enough for it and the album to be completed. The album might be a while away yet, but it’ll be worth the wait to hear some great rock and roll music from Faces again.
