Of Montreal isn't anything you think. Just when Kevin Barnes, who is ultimately the entire band, and there is nothing wrong with that, makes an album that sounds like disco and soul, he makes one that is more rock-driven. Barnes can do it all, and it simply doesn't get noticed enough.
But set aside Of Montreal's excellent catalog of studio albums for a second, and know how elite Barnes and his guest band are. It is communal, wonderful, and an experience for everyone. Plus, balloons are often involved.
Even if one doesn't know most of the songs (no worries; most of the crowd will as Of Montreal has their devotees), the way the concert is staged will make for a good time. There are happy tunes about sad situations, and danceable pop that combines with alternative rock. It is a magic trick few can pull off, but Barnes pulls it off with ease.
