One thing stands out immediately about Taylor Swift's acoustic Toy Story 5 song

No longer what it once was.

Taylor Swift has already dropped the radio version of "I Knew It, I Knew You" from the upcoming Toy Story 5, and while rumors abounded that the song would be a return to her country sound, the track really wasn't. The tune was still firmly in pop territory and ready to grab the hearts of Oscar voters.

On Friday, the promised acoustic version was dropped (there is also a piano version), and this is the version that country music fans might like better. A listener will notice immediately that the track is stripped down, featuring Swift's voice, while the banjo and harmonica stand out more, as the acoustic guitar pushes the song forward.

What's missing is the unnecessary saxophone of the original version. Not that brass cannot be great because it mostly certainly can be, but brass on "I Knew It, I Knew You" appeared out of place.

Taylor Swift's acoustic version of "I Knew It, I Knew You" is better than the original

The acoustic version of the track adds an intimacy that was kept at arm's length in the radio cut. The track is better, building a better personal connection for those listening. The vocals are the same as Swift's intentional has a slight touch of twang, but other instruments are augmented.

The song is written for the cowgirl of the Toy Story franchise, Jessie. Maybe the original idea was to sell the song by the millions as a country-pop (though more pop than anything), but that didn't seem to represent Jessie very well. The acoustic version does.

What the track truly needed was to have less, and none of the pop fussiness of the original. The new version proves that.

Will "I Knew It, I Knew You" be a first for Taylor Swift, though? That means, will the tune get the icon an Oscar nomination for the very first time? Likely, and for several reasons.

An important one is that the Academy Awards nominating Swift's tune should mean that she performs at the awards ceremony next year. That is going to bring eyeballs to screens everywhere, which means more money from advertisers. If adding Swift to a thing means that thing can make more money, then it will likely be done.

Plus, while the acoustic version of the Toy Story 5 song is better than the original, the original isn't bad, of course. The track is also a great one for a film, and the kind that should get nominated for an Academy Award.
