Arguably, no one ever put on a farewell show like Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath did in July 2025. But that day-long concert has been turned into a documentary about the Back to the Beginning concert, which was released in theaters on October 28. It will be available for digital release on December 11, and there's more.

The December release won't simply be in digital form, though that will be available in 4K Ultra HD, but also on Blu-ray, CD, and vinyl. The CD and vinyl, of course, will be the soundtrack only, but even that is special.

If you like to own different colored vinyl for the same release, the 2LP Back to the Beginning drop will be available in grey splatter vinyl that can be ordered at Ozzy’s store, purple splatter vinyl at the Black Sabbath store, and metallic vinyl at various independent record stores. The vinyl and multiple CD sets can be pre-ordered now at those sites.

Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath's Back to the Beginning documentary gets a digital release date

For those wanting to see all 35 covers of Ozzy and Sabbath songs, and the covers played by others performed on the day of the concert, one might want to wait until April 2027. That is when a deluxe Blu-ray package will be released that will include those.

Ozzy sadly died about two weeks after the concert at Villa Park in Birmingham. He had lived with constant pain for years, but still wanted to give fans one final show. Making the event a farewell for Sabbath too was simply brilliant. Former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello was the musical director, and his choices about whom to include were excellent.

While the theatrical documentary release will offer excellent sound quality and visuals, the way to fully enjoy what happened in July 2025 is to get the Blu-ray since you will have access to all of the songs. Obviously, a two-plus-hour theatrical version cannot do that.

Back to the Beginning broke streaming records for a metal show. The event basically became the greatest one-day rock festival in the history of the genre, and one that is unlikely to ever be replicated. After all, there is only one Ozzy Osbourne and one Black Sabbath.
