BET Awards: Full list of all the winners in the music categories
By Lee Vowell
The 2023 BET Awards were once again an entertaining and joyous celebration of music, movies, and culture. If you are done with the tongue-in-cheek sarcasm of most awards shows, then the BET Awards should be a must-watch for you. Plus, the performances are usually excellent on the show.
In fact, the show is really about the performances. Most of the awards given out were not televised. Six of the awards were, but 15 were not. This is OK because, again, the BET Awards aren't really about winning and losing, but about a celebration of the arts.
Busta Rhymes received a singularly important award, however. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award. BET CEO Scott Mills said of Rhymes that he is "a visionary, a master of rhyme, and a true pioneer. His unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries, unapologetically expressing his art, and empowering generations of artists is a testament to his unparalleled legacy." Here are the other winners for the music categories.
2023 BET Award winners in the music categories
Album of the Year - Renaissance by Beyonce and SOS by SZA (tie)
Video of the Year - "Kill Bill" by SZA
Video Director of the Year - Teyana "Spike Tey" Taylor
Best New Artist - Coco James
BET Her - "Break My Soul" by Beyonce
Viewer's Choice: Best New International Act - Libianca from Cameroon
Best International Act - Burna Boy from Nigeria
It should be noted that an artist from Nigeria wins this award every year, it seems. Maybe we should start taking notice of people from other countries a bit more (like the BET Awards do). That said, Nigeria specifically produces a ton of good music.
