Jack White set to give fans a most White Stripes-y album

Jack White is dropping a surprise album on Friday, but what should fans expect it to sound like?

Jack White only seems to be one of the more productive musicians in rock music. Partly, this is based on how many side projects he has had, such as the Raconteurs. The view might also be aided by the fact he produced two solo records in 2022.

The truth is that prior to 2022, White was only releasing solo records every four years or so. Plus, White is so good at conceptualizing his music and recording it amazingly perfectly, any White song you might never have heard before seems new. The track might actually be a few years old.

One style of record White has not gone full blast on as a solo performer is one that might also be mistaken for a White Stripes album. White hasn't necessarily intentionally made different-sounding music because at the crux of everything is his guitar and blues-based heavy rock. His songs generally have not been as aggressive as his White Stripes era.

Jack White's new album will be called No Name and will be available on August 2

That is until now. White will have a new album released in full on Friday, August 2. The oddness is that the record has actually been available to fans who have seen his smaller shows in late July. They might not have noticed as much because the album is literally called No Name.

If you live in the Nashville, Detroit, or London areas, you can actually get the record on Thursday, August 1. The limited edition vinyl will be blue, but others can order the record online and it will be basic black. Digitally, the album will be available to anyone everywhere on Friday.

Here is the good part, though. According to Brooklyn Vegan, the new Jack White album will sound much like an early White Stripes record. BV's Andrew Sacher wrote the album is "undeniably his most White Stripes-y album since The White Stripes. These are raw, blistering garage rock/punk/blues hybrids that sound more like the Jack White who made 'Fell In Love With A Girl' than the Jack White who made 'Lazaretto.'"

In other words, this sounds like the album you need to purchase on Friday, right? Or, maybe take a trip to Nashville, London, or Detroit on Thursday. If you do so, give me your Venmo details and I will Venmo you so you can get me a copy as well.

The tracklisting for White's new album is as follows:

1. "Old Scratch Blues"
2. "Bless Yourself"
3. "That's How I'm Feeling"
4. "It's Rough on Hats (If You're Asking)"
5. "Archbishop Harold Holmes"
6. "Bombing Out"
7. "What's the Rumpus?"
8. "Tonight (Was a Long Time Ago)"
9. "Underground"
10. "Number One With a Bullet"
11. "Morning at Midnight"
12. "Missionary"
13. "Terminal Archenemy Ending"
