Morrissey becomes a part of one of the weirdest collaborations ever

Some of the names on a new song with Morrissey might be a bit shocking. That is a very good thing.

Ever thought of Morrissey as a hip-hop star? If you have, good for you. You might be the first. And yet, the iconic singer is set to be part of a new song that includes the former Smiths front man and a bunch of rap icons. (No, that is not a joke.)

The news was released during an interview with A$AP Rocky on Apple Music. The rapper was discussing his forthcoming album, Don't Be Dumb, which is set to be released on August 30. His most recent single, "Highjack," was released this past Friday and features Jessica Pratt.

When speaking about his track with Morrissey, A$AP Rocky was glowing in his praise of the performer. The song is called "Hood Happy" and has a number of musical artists besides Morrissey, but all the rest do their world in the world of hip-hop. The list includes Busta Rhymes, Flavor Flav, Slick Rick, and Fatman Scoop.

What might make the song a must-listen is seeing what role Morrissey fits on the track. He surely will not try to rap because that sounds hideous. Maybe he does the usual thing on rap songs where he joins in on the chorus somehow. That at least makes sense even if the rest of the track doesn't.

Still, A$AP Rocky said of Morrissey, "Anything you need him to do, he show up and do." That makes the singer sound a lot easier to work with than some have implied.

Morrissey posted a clip from social media on his website of A$AP Rocky speaking about "Hood Happy" and titled the clip, "The Guardian will be horrified to hear this." The performer has never been one to mix words or complain about music journalism. (The good thing here is that I am just a hack and not a true journalist so Morrissey likely won't ever be upset with me.)

If you like Morrissey, you might also be happy to know that he has announced a string of new gigs that will last from October 31 in Houston, Texas to November 23 in Waukegan, Illinois. The dates are all in the eastern United States (except for one show in Niagara Falls, Ontario) so you might have to travel to see the performer live.
