New must-buy music releases in September include Olivia Rodrigo, Corey Taylor, more
By Lee Vowell
One can tell we are getting closer to the Christmas season because September is completely full of new records that might make for excellent gifts for the music lovers in your life. There is nearly a must-buy record released each week. The list includes Ed Sheeran, Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Olivia Rodrigo, among many others.
One artist, Demi Lovato, is following a bit in Taylor Swift's footsteps and releasing a remix album called Revamped. Instead of an entirely re-recorded version of a previously released album, Lovato has just re-recorded certain songs from her catalog. The album drops on September 15th.
There are simply far too many albums being released to break down each one now. We will do that before each week in different articles (we are lazy that way). But here's a general overview of which albums you need to start saving up for to purchase.
Music releases in September: Corey Taylor, Olivia Rodrigo, Ed Sheeran, more
September 8th
Olivia Rodrigo brings us Guts in the second week of the month. This is her second studio album. In June she released the first single from the album, "Vampire." If the rest of the album is as good, you are in for a treat.
Also on the 8th, Royal Blood will release their fourth album, Back to the Water Below. If you haven't listen to them yet, you should. Fun rock and roll.
September 15th
Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor releases his second solo album, CMF2, in the third week. He's done a ton of press behind the record, which is either a great sign or a desperate one. The first song off the record was "Beyond," and while not one that would rank with Slipknot's best, the track is still pretty good. Taylor has said this album is more like a punch in the face, so that's good?
The Barenaked Ladies will release their eighteenth studio album during this week. BNL will likely never be as good as they were during the Steven Page days, but they still produce pretty decent pop music. "One Night" is the first single off the record and it is what you would expect (which is a good thing).
September 22nd
This is likely the most eclectic week of the month. Death metal band Cannibal Corpse releases their latest album, Chaos Horrific. Kylie Minogue is releasing her first LP since 2020. The record will be called Tension. And Teenage Fanclub releases Nothing Lasts Forever, their first LP since 2021.
September 29th
Hardcore band Code Orange puts out The Above this week. One of the songs on the album, "Take Shape," features Billy Corgan. The single was fantastic, and so should the rest of the album be.
Ed Sheeran will release Autumn Variations, which is his second record of 2023. There are no tour dates behind the record, but if you are a Sheeran fan at least you are getting a lot of new music. This record is also produced by The National's Aaron Dessner who produced Sheeran's Subtract which came out earlier this year.
