Revisiting the time Deadpool felt the need to stick up for Nickelback

'Deadpool & Wolverine' is about to be unleashed, but there was once a time when Deadpool decided to stick up for Canadian band Nickelback.

Don't worry, Deadpool fans. The latest film with the character is set to be released on July 26. The movie is called Deadpool & Wolverine but you likely knew that. If you didn't then Merry Christmas! Somewhat shockingly, the last film featuring Deadpool came out six years ago. The wait has been long enough.

As part of the fun stuff surrounding Deadpool 2, there were several snippets released that had little to do with the film itself. One of these featured Ryan Reynold's character (sorry if you had no idea Reynolds played Deadpool) along with Fred Savage, better known for his work on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

(OK, to be fair, Savage is better known for the Wonder Years, but he did do stuff on Sunny which features Reynolds' buddy, Rob McElhenney. Maybe Savage helped form the friendship between Reynolds and McElhenney? But I digress.)

The time Deadpool stuck up for Nickelback

In the clip with Savage and Deadpool from 2018, Savage points out that Deadpool is more Marvel-adjacent than MCU. Much in the same way, Savage jokingly says, that both the Beatles and Nickelback produce music but there is a big difference between the quality of the two bands. To this, Deadpool reacts quite negatively.

Of course, part of the shtick is that Nickelback is Canadian and so is Ryan Reynolds. This makes the need for Reynolds to defend Nickelback more believable and humorous. Savage (rightfully) says the band is "overproduced, formulaic, ear-garbage" and then Reynolds' character points out how many albums Nickelback has sold and how many awards they have been nominated for (including Junos!).

The clip ends with Savage and Deadpool doing a duet to Nickelback's song, "How You Remind Me". It is all fun and games and quite amusing. That doesn't really make the song any better, though.

No Nickelback songs are featured on the soundtrack for Deadpool & Wolverine. Avril Lavigne is listed, however. Rest assured, Canadian music fans, there will still be a presence felt.
