The Smiths don't seem set to follow Oasis with a reunion tour
By Lee Vowell
Oasis has made lots of music fans happy by announcing a reunion tour that will keep them in the UK (and Ireland!) for the duration of their gigs. Maybe they get to the United States eventually, but that seems to depend on how well the concerts go in the UK and how well the brothers get along. If they don't, forget any future shows. Enjoy the ones we have.
As much as Noel and Liam Gallagher have fought with each other directly, Morrissey and Johnny Marr have fought with one another indirectly. Lawsuits and unfriendliness seems to be a way of life for the former band. The shame is that music fans are the ones that suffer.
The same way music fans suffered because of the difference between the Oasis brothers. They decided not to play together for 15 years. Was that because they didn't have anything to give to the fans or because they were selfish that they did not want to try? The same could be said of Morrissey and Marr.
The Smiths will not let fans get what they want
Morrissey hasn't truly commented on any kind of reunion tour with the Smiths for a bit. Marr, however, appears to have put a quick end to any discussion of the Smiths getting back together and playing a few shows. That has not happened in three decades. Why would it happen now?
After a fan asked on social media if Oasis can set aside their differences to tour why can't the Smiths, Marr had a simple response. He posted a photo of a person smiling and holding a drink. The clear implication was one of sarcasm. Actually, Morrissey-type sarcasm, to be honest.
Maybe Marr deserves a standing ovation for his post? Fans should still be sad.
The biggest issue is that Marr and Morrissey have almost always had divergent views on politics and this has grown more divisive over the years. They care about such things. Smiths fans just want to watch the two play music together. That is likely a pipe dream, sadly.
