Three potentially brilliant albums to look forward to in 2024
By StevieMac
Of course, Beyonce and Taylor Swift will take the big headlines for their new music. These three below though are from great artists too. Based on the singles they’ve also got out, the new albums will deserve plenty of attention. Make a note in your diary now!
First up is a favourite artist of mine. I first saw Seasick Steve, as did many others, via Jools Holland's Hootenanny BBC show on New Year's Eve 2006. The guy stole the show with his “Dog House Boogie” and wowed audiences up and down the UK. It prompted an amazing boost to what was a session musician's own solo career.
A lot of years later Steve is still playing and recording. He's just announced a new album, single, and several live shows and festival slots. Full details of states are available online. His new album A Trip A Stumble A Fall Down On Your Knees is due out on June 7. If the new single from it, ”Backbone Slip”, is anything to go by, then this amazing blues player and gravel-voiced singer has a treat in store for fans.
Kings Of Leon are ready to rock again
Well, it's yet another band I love, Kings Of Leon, with a new album. There’s not so long to wait for this one, it's out on May 10. I still recall listening to their debut album Youth & Young Manhood back in 2003, it was such a distinctive sound and unique singing style from the Followills.
Now it’s their ninth studio album Can We Please Have Fun being released. They too have a single, “Mustang”, out now. A broody rock song that bodes well for the new album. The band have also announced a series of US and Canada tour dates and a headline slot at BST Hyde Park London in June. Plenty to look forward to from this top band.
Kasabian hope to make eight great
Third up in this trio of album release news comes the UK band Kasabian. It’s 20 years since their debut album and they've just announced their eighth studio album Happenings. We’ll have to wait until July 5 for this, but again have a new single “Call” to sample beforehand. Have a listen, it's a short blast of dance music from the band.
Their previous album The Alchemist’s Euphoria had decent reviews when it came out in 2022. That was their first album after frontman Tom Meigham had been dismissed. I liked it more than enough to be keen to hear this next album Happenings. To help launch it, Kasabian have a huge gig planned in their Leicester hometown on July 6. Let's hope it's a good gig and album.
