Trent Reznor announces some extremely exciting news about Nine Inch Nails
By Lee Vowell
The last Nine Inch Nails album that was anything close to a normal release was in 2018 when the group churned out Bad Witch. Of course, nothing NIN does is ever truly "normal." There were two LPs released in 2020, but they were more of a gift to fans during the pandemic. To be fair, Trent Reznor and his mates stopped making normal studio albums a long time ago and will probably never return to that way of doing things.
That does not mean fans of Reznor and his long-time writing partner, Atticus Ross, have not produced new music. They've put out a lot of it. Most of the new music has been attached to film scores, however. That means people looking for the next Downward Spiral are not going to find it.
Nor should they, to be fair. Much like one of Reznor's heroes, David Bowie, the performer is a real artist. He isn't going to sell out for a few hit tracks. He makes enough money writing for films. That also allows him to express himself in a way he couldn't earlier in his career.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will create the music for the new Tron film as Nine Inch Nails
Also - and this is important - Reznor and Ross are really good at what they do. They take the time to create real music instead of fluffy sounds that have no meaning. This would go against Reznor's entire being, most likely. Don't make music unless there is some meaning behind it. Art isn't art without genuine intent by the artist to explore what most haven't.
Here is the great news, however. Reznor and Ross will not only create the soundtrack for the new Tron film but the music will be titled under Nine Inch Nails instead of just Reznor and Ross. The movie is called Tron: Ares. The pic will star Jared Leto, Gillian Anderson, and Evan Peters, among others. The release date is currently October 10, 2025.
The most exciting part about having the name Nine Inch Nails attached instead of just Reznor and Ross is that NIN fans might actually get full new songs that break our worlds. Or break the Tron world. Either way, music lovers are the real winners.
