3 winners and 2 losers from the 2024 Grammy Awards
By Lee Vowell
The 2024 Grammy Awards had a little bit of everything. There were great performances, there was an arrest, there was Joni Mitchell, and almost anything else a music fan might want. Sure, there was no Tom Waits, but we cannot have everything.
One of the best bits about the show was that the three biggest awards were split among three different artists. Taylor Swift won for Album of the Year (Midnights), Billie Eilish won for Song of the Year ("What Was I Made For?"), and Miley Cyrus won Record of the Year (more on that in just a minute).
But not everyone was a winner at the 2024 Grammys, of course. Some even lost outside of the nominations. But let's start with a winner.
2024 Grammy Awards winners and losers
Winner No. 1 - Miley Cyrus
Cyrus did not only win her first Grammy ever but her first two. She also performed her song "Flowers" and worked the crowd amazingly confidently. She even came away with one of the big three awards; she won for Record of the Year for "Flowers." Her voice, her attitude, and her talent made her stand out from most of the rest of the performers during the show and she was magnificent.
Loser No. 1 - Killer Mike
Killer Mike did well at the 2024 Grammys winning three awards. But he also was handcuffed by police during the ceremony for an alleged "physical altercation." According to TMZ, Killer Mike (whose actual name is Michael Render) was booked for a battery charge after a private person's arrest.
Winner No. 2 - Jon Batiste
This is a little odd because of when Batiste performed because he did so as part of the In Memoriam segment. But Batiste was simply electric and his intention of celebrating life even in the midst of death showed through. He proved why he is one of the better showmen in the music industry right now.
Loser No. 2 - Olivia Rodrigo
Rodrigo seemed to be ascending before the Grammys. She was on lots of talk shows and her music was everywhere and winning several Grammy Awards would have made an already popular artist a notch or so below Taylor Swift. But while she was nominated six times, she left with no trophies.
Winner No. 3 - Swifties
Not only did Swifties get to watch their hero win two awards, including Album of the Year for Midnights, but Taylor Swift also gave them some incredible news. Swift has a new album coming out on April 19 called Tortured Poets Department. Swift also got a lot of air time, of course, and she looked brilliant. Just another great night to be a Swiftie.
