Record Store Day started with the kernel of a good idea. Bring people to local stores instead of having people shop on Amazon and other online retailers, and offered those people special buys. That has changed quite a bit in recent years.

Special releases might still be made available at various record stores, but these releases are simply a handful. Instead, everyone and their brother's band has some kind of release. Record Store Day is no longer necessarily special, but another day when too much is being released at once.

That is what makes RSD Black Friday a bit better. Sure, there are still loads of releases, but not so many that a fan can't keep up with who is dropping an album and who isn't. The assumption might as well have been that everyone was dropping a release on previous RSDs. Black Friday, which is November 27, 2026, is a bit better for having a plan for what to buy.

These albums you should find and buy on Record Store Day Black Friday

Billy Idol - Live from the Roxy 1982

The set has been released before, but never on vinyl. Instead, in 2023, it was made available as a bonus disc as part of a reissue of Idol's self-titled debut album. The vinyl will be a 2LP set featuring Idol in his best days.

Motorhead - The Lost Tapes Vol. 8: Live at Margate

An original release in terms of a physical format, fans of the band might have heard this on streaming on Motorhead Day earlier in 2026. As we all know, though, vinyl sounds much better, and on RSD, you can pick up this 2LP set.

The release was recorded in Margate, UK, on November 5, 1984. More interestingly, the band is a three-piece of Lemmy Kilmister, Pete Gill, and Phil Campbell.

Prince - 3121 Las Vegas Live

Recorded on January 20, 2007, this will be available for the first time on RSD. This is going to be expansive, too. The vinyl will be a three-record set, and if you want to buy the CD version, that will encompass two discs.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Expand Your Mind: Songs in 3D

Never released before, this live album was recorded during shows in Bulgaria in 2025. Only 5,000 copies will be available, and only at independent record stores. Interestingly, the release is billed as the first 3D zeotrope record, which means there will be a turntable that also has an animated feature.

Plus, no matter the gimmick of the 3D aspect, hearing King Gizzard do their work live is going to be elite. They never fail to entertain.
