Bad Bunny has gotten a lot of pushback from conservative groups about playing the Super Bowl LX (that's 60 for those who prefer Arabic numbers) halftime show. Why? Well, because his first language is Spanish and he is Puerto Rican.

That's the assumption, at least, as the performer certainly hasn't done anything to show he's a bad human being. He has chosen not to perform at length in the 50 states during his current tour, but he just finished a long residency in Puerto Rico. The island is, and hopefully this doesn't come as a shock, a territory of the US. In other words, its residents are Americans.

The week ahead of each Super Bowl is full of media days where players and coaches get asked questions about anything and everything, and that has happened with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots as they prepare to play in Super Bowl LX on Sunday.

Seattle Seahawks edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence gives a great answer about Bad Bunny and the Super Bowl

Seahawks edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence was asked about Bad Bunny performing at halftime of the game, and Lawrence gave a measured and great answer. Instead of not wanting to watch halftime because one might see a person who is different from them singing and dancing, maybe the person should embrace the diversity. It is diversity that has helped the United States excel.

Lawrence said, "We have so many cultures and ethnic backgrounds in America, I think it’s time to start embracing all of them...that’s what really makes America great."

He is, of course, not wrong. Again, it might be different if someone who had been convicted of some heinous crime was set to perform at halftime, but the NFL wouldn't allow that anyway. This would not be a serious concern.

Nothing about Bad Bunny says he is not a good person. His first language is Spanish, just as it is for many of the residents of Puerto Rico, just as it is for many residents in Florida, California, Texas, and other places. To dislike Bad Bunny for his language deeply implies bigotry.

One doesn't have to like his music. That is far more subjective. If the halftime show had featured Morgan Wallen, for instance, many might not want to watch because they might not like country music. Thousands of people would not be complaining about the language he speaks and the color of his skin, yet thousands do about Bad Bunny.

Good music is good music, and Bad Bunny, who just won the Grammy for Album of the Year, makes good music. No reason exists not to watch him other than one doesn't care for his songs. Anything else is inexcusable.
