Rock music lives, no matter if it goes through dips in form and changes to subgenres that often have to find their footing before they can hold up to the great bands that came before. That is one of the best parts of rock: The genre evolves, and often for the better.
In September, three likely gems of albums will be released (and probably much more) by artists who have already built a solid career. One is one of the more underrated groups from London, while the other two are living American legends.
The best part is that the three records are released a week apart from each other. This means you can soak in one album before moving on to the next. It is almost like September is an early Christmas.
Three likely terrific rock albums fans won't want to miss in September
Bloc Party - Anatomy of a Brief Romance (September 11)
British indie alternatives have been one of the more underrated bands working in rock music for quite some time. They have already released three singles from their upcoming seventh studio record, and none of those songs have disappointed. The implication is that the entire record will be terrific.
The album promises to be quite personal, too. Singer Kele Okereke wrote the songs after the breakup of a relationship 10-years long. Each lyric, he says, relates to something that actually happened. Get ready for great rock tracks, and maybe a side of pain as well.
Anthrax - Cursum Perficio (September 18)
The thrash metal icons will drop their 12th studio album in September, one that comes a decade after their previous release. That wasn't intentional, and the band has promised that Cursum Perfico won't be their last, either. Let's just hope that 10 years doesn't go by before the next.
Strangely, even though the band has taken their longest period of time between albums, the lineup hasn't changed since 2016's For All Kings. That implies the record should feature tight production and well-constructed tracks. Oh, and raw rage, of course.
Tom Morello - Everyone Gets Everything They Want (September 25)
Morello has produced a number of solo records, even if he will always be best remembered for his work with Rage Against the Machine. His political ethos didn't wane when that band stopped making music. In fact, one of the first singles from Morello's new record is called "Date Night," about three young Dutch girls in World War II who joined the resistance against the Nazis.
The guitarist will get a lot of help on his new record. System of a Down's Serj Tankian performs on "Adjourn It," as does Tom's son, Roman. The latter co-wrote five of the songs on the record. Kneecap joins in on "Unconquered," and Beartooth performs on "Everything Burns."
