Shakira was set to play Fenway Park on May 30, but that concert was canceled due to structural issues with the stage. That made sense as it seemed the same stage the Colombian music star was going to use was the same as what other performers would use this summer.
After all, the Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn concert at Fenway was canceled as well, and that was set for the next day. The safety of the performers in Boston outweighed the need to have a show.
But now Shakira has canceled her WorldPride concert in Washington, DC, set for May 31, which was also canceled. The reason given was that Shakira's full tour production could not be transported from Boston to DC in time for the show. That makes little sense.
Shakira forced to cancel second straight show as DC concert was canceled
The Boston and DC concerts were scheduled well ahead of time. If there was going to be a problem getting Shakira's production from one city to the next, it would have already been known. Plus, the tie to the Aldean concert would seem small in relation to not having the DC show.
Something seems amiss since the two tours are separate from one another, and therefore, the stages would also be different. Maybe Shakira's setup was an issue in Boston, and it would have been a problem in DC, too, but Aldean and Brooks & Dunn not going on seems strange.
Shakira is next set to play in Atlanta on June 2, and the assumption is that the show will go off without an issue, but if it doesn't, there should be a concern simply because the situation would be a strange one.
After Atlanta, the Colombian star has 13 shows left in the United States, followed by 15 in Mexico before finishing in Peru in November. There would be loads of upset fans if the tour ceased, of course, though maybe the scenarios with DC and Boston are simply a coincidence. Let's hope there is not a bigger problem afoot.
