Slipknot fans might have a reason to expect sudden firings from the band. As in the case with former drummer Jay Weinberg, for instance, his being let go was a surprise even to him and appeared to come via a phone call. So when rumors online circulated and were reported by TMZ that Sid Wilson had been terminated, one could believe that was true.
Implied by longtime band member Jim Root, however, Wilson might not have been let go. In a recent social media post, Root doesn't name Wilson specifically, but does tell fans not to believe everything they read and to be more logical.
Root wrote on Instagram, "Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for a while. Maybe. Maybe even wait until there’s more information."

Still, Maggots, as Slipknot fans are known, might do what Root suggests except for the fact that they have seen this before, and not too long ago. The band appears to make sudden changes. That might not be the case with Wilson, and maybe that didn't happen with Weinberg (we don't know what happens behind the scenes), but Weinberg did speak about the issue afterward and his shock.
The positive part is that, at this point, Sid Wilson seems to be a part of the band. He has stage charisma without ever saying anything. He's performed percussion since 1998, joining the group just a year after vocalist Corey Taylor did, and has played keyboards since 2008.
He has been an integral part of the nine-piece band's stage presence, even more than on the studio records. He adds an element of bombast and volume that augments Slipknot's epic live shows. Nine members might be too much for some metal outfits, but not Slipknot. It feels like the perfect number.
In happier news, Slipknot has been in the studio working on a new album, according to an interview Jim Root did with RIDE BYND. The band began with parts of 50 songs and is likely whittling that number down to proper tunes.
No timeline exists for the release of a new album, which would be the band's first since 2022's The End, So Far, and before sending the record to the masses, the band would need to find a new record label. Their contract with Roadrunner Records ended after the 2022 release. Of course, as popular as Slipknot remains, finding a new label will not be an issue and likely cause a bidding war.
