There were a lot of supergroups formed over the years.

11 - Little River Band - 5.7m

Little River Band, on the other hand, may often get overlooked in terms of top supergroups, but with 5.7m album sales worldwide they deserve their place. Despite their Australian roots, the majority of those sales were in the US. Little River Band were at their peak in the latter half of the 1970s.

Like many bands there have been a few lineup changes, at one stage John Farnham was in their ranks. The band still exists and will hit New Zealand in January with their latest tour, but without any of the original band members, although bass player Wayne Nelson has been with the group since 1980.

10 - Audioslave - 5.9m

A long-lasting collaboration between Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk. I did dither over whether this counted as a supergroup with three from one band plus Cornell, but gave it a pass in the end. Six albums and several tours plus those almost six million sales help them make this list.

9 - Traveling Wilburys - 6.4m

What a top group and an extraordinary lineup. Truly a super cast list of members from the world of music. George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, and Tom Petty all seemed to have great fun as Wilburys. Perhaps, like Cream, their success in sales is limited by them releasing just three albums over the period 1988 to 1991. Over six million sales are still pretty impressive, as were the three albums.
