In case you happen to live in a cave (a safe one with electricity) and didn't know, Taylor Swift released a new album in October. The record is called The Life of a Showgirl, and it is quite good. What else would we expect from the pop queen, though?
Among the many great songs on the album (and all of the tracks are very good) is one titled "Wood." To say the lyrics are suggestive is a bit of an understatement. One could easily infer that Swift is singing about Travis Kelce, her fiancé and partner for nearly two years.
But is she really? In certain parts of the song, Swift clearly is. She mentions Kelce's podcast, New Heights, which he does with his brother, Jason. In other parts, she suggests sexual acts that one would hope would be about Kelce because otherwise things get weird between them.
Taylor Swift clarifies the meaning of the lyrics to the song "Wood"
Taylor Swift herself, though, attempted to clarify what the track was really about on SiriusXM Hits 1. The singer was even OK with playing the tune for her mother. To be fair, Swift's mother might be a bit more used to her daughter's creative juices than many others. All is fair game in a Taylor Swift song.
Swift said, "I think that she thinks that that song is about superstitions, popular superstitions, which it absolutely is. That's the joy of the double entendre. You could read that song for people, and it just goes right over their head. You see in that song what you wanna see in that song."
One could argue that a perfectly written song with loads of double entendre would not "go over someone's head." One might still find their own meaning in the track, of course, but also understand that some of the verses and lines have a double meaning.
Or maybe some people have simply fixated on lines such as, "Redwood tree, it ain't hard to see/His love was the key that opened my thighs." It is slightly difficult to tell if Swift means sex where she sings "love" or vice versa. Either way, the track is fantastic and the production pristine. Basically, just like every other Taylor Swift tune.
