The Futureheads - ‘Hounds of Love”

Tackling a Kate Bush song isn’t easy. Her hit “Hounds Of Love” was pretty much a hallmark of the singer. It was also the title track of her fifth studio album from 1986. UK post-punk band The Futureheads added their twist on the song to their 2004 self-titled debut album.

The Futureheads were a mix of new wave and art rock, playing well-crafted lively songs. They added a nice buzz to the original song and made “Hounds Of Love” the standout track on the album. It’s a really good version of a classic song and done well. It's hard to beat a Kate Bush original, but a great way to compliment it with a varied version.

Muse - “Feeling Good”

This is quite a take on a song originally written by Anthony Newly and Leslie Bricusse for a stage musical back in the 1960s. Nina Simone released a very sultry version back then too. There’s also a long list of others who have recorded their own take on it, Michael Buble, The Pussycat Dolls, and George Michael being just some of the names on there.

Muse, though, brought something quite different to their 2001 version. It switches superbly from quiet moments to full-on crashing rock guitar and drums. Amazing vocals from Matt Bellamy throughout too. Muse brought their power and intensity to the song along with the deft touches needed. A brilliant version and one of the best cover songs around.
