Music fans can assume that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce knows a lot about music. Even if he didn't want to know much about the entertainment industry, he would accidentally learn tidbits from his wife, Taylor Swift.
Music lovers can't be too sure about quarterback Justin Fields' understanding of music, though. Maybe he is more knowledgable that fans assume, but his recent words about Blink-182 might cement the thought that Fields doesn't have a wide range of musical tastes.
During a recent practice, Kelce says to Fields, "You go to a Blink-182 concert, that's rockin'."
Fields responds with, "You said what kinda...Who's concert?" At this point, Kelce looks at Fields, possibly unsure if the quarterback was joking, which he apparently was not.
Travis Kelce stunned by Justin Fields' Blink-182 comments
Kelce states, "Blink-182," and Fields answers, "I don't know what that is." Kelce rightfully responds, "What?!" and Fields says, "That must be back in the day."
At this point, some fans might be nodding in agreement. Blink-182 definitely hasn't dropped a lot of recent music. Their latest album was 2023's One More Time..., and the record before that was released in 2019. Still, the 2023 bon mot did reach the top of the Billboard album charts, so it isn't as if Blink-182 is producing records no one hears.
What is likely is that Justin Fields just doesn't listen to rock music. What he listens to is not extremely well known, so maybe he is relaxing to a Beethoven symphony instead of the pop-punk sounds of Blink-182. He has that right, but it is quite odd that he apparently hasn't heard of the group.
Since 1999's Enema of the State, every Blink-182 record (seven in total) has reached at least the top 10 on the album charts. Fields has likely heard, even if accidentally, "All the Small Things," a tune that has permeated culture and shopping malls everywhere.
While Travis Kelce is 36 years old, Justin Fields is 27 years old, and as the tight end rightly tells the quarterback, "You were definitely alive for sure. You can't say 'back in the day' like that."

Exactly. Plus, people don't listen to music that only came out during their lifetimes. Otherwise, many people would have never listened to the gems of the Beatles. Fields' implication that John, Paul, George, and Ringo aren't worth listening to because they released records too long ago would be silly.
To be fair, Justin Fields doesn't necessarily have to like every musical act, and maybe Blink-182 is simply not his kind of sound, but to be unaware and dismissive of Travis Kelce's observation of the group just feels wrong.
