Somehow, some way, Weird Al Yankovic has found a place in many people's hearts as their favorite singing comedian. He has done this through being clever, of course, but also being self-aware. He knows where to draw the line, but never stops being silly, too. He's just a good songsmith.
But what he isn't is the kind of person who would want to be the face of AI. He recently turned down an opportunity to, in his words, make "a nice pile of money" to appear in a commercial for an unnamed AI company. Yankovic is totally about parody, but he doesn't want to appear disingenuous, either.
Speaking with Syracuse.com, Yankovic said, "I’m not going to mention any names, but they told me it was for a business. It was business software that would increase productivity… I said, ‘Oh well, yeah, sure, I could do that.' And then a week before we’re supposed to shoot it, I find out, oh, this is, it’s AI. And I thought, ‘Oh no, I can’t be the poster boy for AI, forget it.’ So I felt bad about kind of pulling out at the last minute. But yeah, I’m not, I’m not down with that."
Weird Al doesn't want to be the face of AI
Surely, a funny song will come from this. What that will be is anyone's guess, of course, but Weird Al can find some song to base it on and turn it into a gem. The best part is that you have a chance to still see the comic icon in concert. Below are what he has left to do in 2026.
