Super Bowl LIX on February 9 is fast approaching with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs preparing for the game. It’s a nerve-wracking time for everyone involved, including those providing the halftime entertainment and the formal ceremonial songs that start things off. They’ve all been getting ready for a while now.
Several top stars will be on show for the entertainment and pre-game songs. Rapper Kendrick Lamar, with his guest performer Sza, are lined up for an electric halftime period. Definitely one to watch out for.
The on-stage spotlight starts well before then, though, and shines on those brave and talented enough to perform the traditional opening songs. With the game being played at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, there’s a special local theme to the pre-game lineup. The plan is to celebrate the music of New Orleans and Louisiana by using performers from the area.
Local stars to shine on Super Bowl LIX pre-game songs
In what is the main feature before the game, the national anthem at this year's Super Bowl is being sung by Louisiana born, award-winning singer, songwriter, and personality Jon Batiste. He’s already talked about wanting to give an unforgettable experience to viewers. Multi-talented Batiste’s musical experience is very broad, both as a performer and a band leader.
It seems as though he is bringing that to the fore as he works on his own arrangement for the anthem. Another key moment to watch and listen out for.
We will also be able to see and hear Lauren Daigle perform another of the traditional songs for the event. The double Grammy Award-winning Louisiana singer adds her voice to the pre-game ceremonies. Daigle will be singing “America The Beautiful.”
One of New Orleans’ favorite jazz musicians, Trombone Shorty, will play on this special performance, too. As in recent years, we’ll hear “Lift Every Voice And Sing” performed. This will come from yet another Grammy Award winner from Louisiana. R&B star Ledisi has the honor in her home city this year.
Once again, there will be American sign language performances for all three of these songs. Stephanie Nogueras will sign for two of the songs. Otis Jones IV will sign for “Lift Every Voice And Sing.” Matt Maxey performs the signing for the halftime show.
That's the ceremonial lineup covered for before the game. We also know and look forward to Lamar and Sza at halftime, perhaps with Batiste involved then too. It all has the usual Super Bowl sensational feel about it. Oh yes, there’s a game in there too!
