Country music icon and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dolly Parton died on August 25 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.
No official reason was given for her death, but family member Bryan Seaver, Parton's nephew, delivered the news of her death in an Instagram post. He did so in a calm and precise manner, speaking what others already knew about his aunt.
That was that she was a kind person who tried to make the world a better place. That included beginning a free book foundation for children called Imagination Library. The foundation eventually became a national one that gave children who might not have had the opportunity otherwise to be able to find books they loved.

Parton will also be remembered for being the owner of Dollywood, a Sevierville, Tennessee-based amusement park that grew by a huge amount under Parton's leadership. She also used much of the money made from the park to help others.
In essence, she was the kind of celebrity who didn't let fame go to her head. She didn't see herself as better than others. She grew up with very little and died with more than most, and she remained grateful for whatever she had.
She starred in films and TV, and her Broadway musical, called DOLLY: A True Original Musical, is set to debut on December 7, 2026, at the St. James Theatre in New York City. One would expect that to also be a grand success.
But what she will be remembered for most is her fantastic catalog of music and her influence on different genres. She was even inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because of the latter in 2022, even though she didn't feel worthy of being so. Because of the honor, she chose to record her first and only rock album with the tongue-in-cheek title of Rockstar.
In total, she released 49 studio albums, and 55 of her singles reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Still, she wasn't about how many records she sold, but instead the quality of the music she made.
More recently, Dolly Parton has suffered from health issues, which forced her to cancel several events over the last year. Her husband of 59 years, Carl Dean, died in 2025. The couple did not have any children.
