Ozzy Osbourne's dream band tilts more poppy than expected

Ozzy Osbourne knows talent when he sees it. He has been fortunate enough to work with some of the best musicians in metal, not that Ozzy is a hack himself. He can pen a tune and turn that into vinyl gold. He is certainly one of the five most important figures historically in hard rock.

He also is a hoot on the podcast he does with his family, The Osbournes. But he doesn't mean to be; he is just naturally wryly funny. He is also not afraid to be brutally honest. What does he have to lose? Nothing. If anyone is fairly untouchable in music, it is Ozzy.

On the family's podcast, they sometimes take questions can listeners/viewers. On a recent episode, a viewer asked who would make up the members of Ozzy's dream band. He could have gone with a bunch of heavy metal musicians and that would have made sense. After all, that is the kind of music he has lived.

Ozzy Osbourne's picks for his dream band might surprise you

Instead, Mr. Osbourne chose three people with only one linked to harder rock. That would be Jimi Hendrix which seems like a no-brainer. Everyone should probably have Hendrix in their dream band. Mr. Mozart, "Who is in your dream orchestra?" "Meh, not sure but we could use Jimi on electric guitar for sure."

The Ozfather also chose two former members of the Beatles to make up the rest of his band. John Lennon and Paul McCartney make the list. The interesting part would be who sings? If it's not Osbourne then Lennon? Neither Ozzy nor Lennon is known for their skills with anything other than writing songs and being a vocalist. Lennon can play the piano and guitar, but he is not a master of those.

McCartney is a brilliant bassist, of course, so that makes sense. Plus, having those four people in one band is bound to be entertaining and bombastic. Still, who plays the drums? Maybe the idea is to do something White Stripes-like except instead of guitar and drum it's guitar and bass. Very basic.

The songs wouldn't be basic, though. Lennon and McCartney doing harmony on "Crazy Train" would be gold. Hendrix can play anything, however, so what the band wants to do, Hendrix is the guy. Potentially, Ozzy could take the lead on "Yesterday" and we could enjoy the weirdness that nugget would be.
