Ozzy Osbourne deserves his own Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and he is getting it this month. On October 19, Osbourne will be inducted for the second time. He was originally given immortal status in 2006 when he was enshrined along with his fellow bandmates in Black Sabbath. That was one of the few times the Rock Hall has deemed a pure metal band worthy.

Leaving out Osbourne would be criminal, of course. He has undoubtedly been one of the most important singular figures in rock since 1970. He continues to be in the public eye with his odd personality and ability to convey his thoughts in a unique manner. He is almost a cottage industry unto himself.

He is also not afraid to speak out about other performers he believes should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In a recent conversation with Rolling Stone, Osbourne put forth the unexpected idea that Billy Idol should be part of the Rock Hall. Good for Oz.

On the surface, Idol and Osbourne might not have that much in common other than both sing rock songs. Idol, however, will be part of a fairly large group of musicians who will take part in the Rock Hall ceremony this year during a tribute to Osbourne. Clearly, there is a connection between the two singers.

Other musicians taking part in the tribute include Maynard James Keenan of Tool, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Robert Trujillo of Metallica, Jelly Roll (strangely), and actor/musician Jack Black. To be fair, the Jack Black part is likely to steal the show, as he will probably be amazing.

Osbourne told Rolling Stone simply, "Billy Idol is a rock icon. His music is timeless. Billy Idol should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

Idol, of course, has been a popular figure in music, but one might wonder if his success was long-lasting enough. He was big in the late 1970s with Generation X, and as a solo performer in the 1980s, but beyond that, his scope was limited. Still, getting Idol into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame would only make the Rock Hall a bit more cool.
