Every June, there is an annual Prince celebration organized in Minneapolis and at the late artist's nearby Paisley Park entertainment complex. It always presents an opportunity for some exciting news for all Prince fans and music lovers in general.
That was certainly the case with the 2025 celebration when Londell McMillan of Prince Legacy LLC announced the upcoming plans.
The first piece of news McMillan had to share was an upcoming box set edition of Prince’s possibly most misunderstood album - Around the World In A Day. Switching gears from the funky rock of Purple Rain to his tribute to sixties psychedelia, Prince did come up with another classic that is being seriously re-evaluated these days.
Prince's estate plans on re-releasing some great 1980s albums
Following it will be a vinyl edition of the last two albums Prince released before he died, those being Hit n Run Phase One and Hit n Run Phase Two. Looking into 2026, McMillan indicated that another deluxe edition is in the works, this time of Prince’s Parade album.
Not giving many further details, he indicated that there just might be more surprises coming from the vault tied to this period of Prince's music.
Explaining the Estate’s methodology and approach, McMillan explained that six different entities control parts of Prince’s catalog, including Sony, Warner, Primary Wave, and the estate itself. As he noted, this is to ensure “that each release enhances your understanding of Prince’s music rather than simply boosting streaming numbers.”
With all the concrete announcements, another thing McMillan said stuck out - the fact that only 45 percent of Prince’s vault has been digitized so far, meaning that there can be decades of musical surprises for music fans.
One reason for this slow process might lie in the fact that after Prince’s death, that same vault had to be cracked open by a professional safecracker, when thousands of unreleased recordings were found.
There is a ton of material to go through. After all, Prince released 40 studio albums, as well as five live albums. Two demo albums were released after his death in 2016.
