If anyone had any doubts, and no one can be sure why those people would, that Shakira can still draw a crowd, then the Latin pop star put those doubts to rest this weekend. The performer held a scheduled free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the event drew two million people.
If you thought the beach you went to was crowded, then you haven't seen anything. (Unless you were at the Shakira concert, of course.) The concert, which began at 11 pm local time, was expected to raise about $155 million for the city, according to the Associated Press via Rio City Hall.
2026 marked the third straight year a concert has been held at the same location, though the expectation is that Shakira's gig drew the most people. In 2024, Madonna performed, and last year, Lady Gaga did.

The event was a bit of everything, centered around the icon's performance. Street vendors sold food, water, and beer, as well as necessities like deodorant and toilet paper. Meanwhile, the legend sang hits such as "Hips Don't Lie" and "La Tortura."
If you missed the show, don't worry. Shakira's tour really gets underway in mid-June in California. She will continue a run of shows until late July, and then sets up a residency of 11 concerts in Madrid, Spain, in September.
