The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. More specifically, Seattle defeated Taylor Swift's husband's team. That, of course, is Travis Kelce. It was what happened afterward involving Swift and the Seahawks' social media that made things more interesting.
That's because on both Instagram and X, Seattle's official handles celebrated the victory while also poking a bit of fun at Swift culture. Friendship bracelets? Yep. Shiny clothing? Check.
On IG, the team showed their mascot, Blitz, in an Eras Tour uniform on a stage surrounded by legions of fans.
Seattle Seahawks throw not-so-subtle shade at Taylor Swift
The X post was even better, though maybe not to Swifties. In a post captioned "End game," a nod to Swift's song from her 2017 album, Reputation, two friendship bracelets, a staple among Swifties, with the words "Seahawks win."
Again, it was all done in jest. The Seahawks would likely be fine with Swift returning the favor should the Chiefs and Seattle meet again and KC win. After all, there is no such thing as bad press or, well...bad blood.
The game itself wasn't close, as Seattle dominated Kansas City 20-3. Because of that, whoever runs the Seahawks' social media sites would have had plenty of time to think about how they wanted to tease Taylor Swift and, ultimately, Swifties everywhere.
One can assume that lots of the latter have responded with vitriol to the Seattle football franchise. That was likely welcomed by the team, and everyone involved should have had a laugh at the situation.
Next for the Seattle Seahawks is a difficult Monday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears. Will lots of Swifties watch the game and root with fervor against Seattle? Maybe, but that's only good for the NFL, which is truly the point of the social media posts anyway.
As for Taylor Swift, she probably won't be at the Chiefs' next game, just as she wasn't at the game in Seattle. The Chiefs play the Broncos in Week 8 in Denver. The next chance for the megastar to show up in person and cheer for the Chiefs and Travis Kelce will come in Week 9 when KC hosts the New York Jets.
The Jets are awful, so there is little chance their social media team will have the same opportunity to throw shade at Swift and her fans. Swift is too classy to do the same to the poor Jets.
