Taylor Swift isn't expected to be releasing a new album soon. U2 is. Each artist, though, will be dropping new songs this week, with the Irish lads releasing theirs first.
"Silencio" will be released on all normal digital platforms on Thursday, September 24. The song is the second release from U2's upcoming album Carnaval de Luz. The record doesn't yet have a drop date, but details are expected very soon, possibly even this week.
The first single from the album was "Street of Dreams." That track is a happy one, and if "Silencio" turns out to be the same, what fans should expect is a joyous album. Maybe the band feels the world needs that kind of sound now, and that would make sense.
Taylor Swift and U2 will drop new singles this week
For Taylor Swift, her new song is far more unexpected. "Patient Zero" will be released on Friday, September 25. You can order the single on Swift's official website, and the track will be released in several different formats, including standard, acoustic, and piano versions.
Those Swifties who tuned into the recent Emmys would have seen Swift do a sketch with show host Mariska Hargitay in which a crime board could be seen with likely loads of Easter eggs that her fans would have picked up on. Swift also looked into the camera and said, "Saccharide, Aries, From the Vineyard, North or South."
What is "Patient Zero" about, and is it connected to something larger, such as a new album or soundtrack? No one knows for sure, but clearly Swifties will be guessing. As with many previous clues that fans have picked up on, they might even know the answer before Taylor Swift does.
Besides U2 and Taylor Swift, music lovers will have lots of other potentially great music released this week. Marc Almond will deliver Soft Cell's last record, called Danceteria, for instance.
Tom Morello will drop an album called Everyone Gets Everything They Want, and he will get help from some elite musical friends. System of a Down's Serj Tankian will appear on one song, while the members of Kneecap will show up on another. Morello's son, Roman, helped write five of the songs on the record. All that collaboration probably means the entire concept will be terrific.
For fans of the Smiths, Johnny Marr will be releasing his latest solo effort, The Age of Everything, next Friday, October 2. Everything released so far from the record has been outstanding.
