American Opera Covers The Wonder Years’ “There, There” as Part of Warped Wednesdays for Vans Warped Tour
In preparation for the Vans Warped Tour 2015, which officially kicks off June 19th in Pomona, CA, promotional videos are being slung all over the internet. The tour’s Youtube channel recently resurrected a series they hadn’t visited in a few years—Warped Wednesdays. The videos, which serve as an all-access pass to one or more of the touring bands, have chosen American Opera for this year’s hot seat. Folk rock singer John Bee, originally from Michigander and currently residing in New York, is on his second week of providing viewers with covers of selected songs from other bands on the tour. This week he chose “There, There” by The Wonder Years. The video, which can be viewed below, is filmed in the cavernous and deconstructed belly of some lovely, forgotten building; thematically running all too perfectly alongside Bee’s deconstructed, enchanting cover.
Bringing his acoustic prowess to the pop punk song, Bee explains, “This summer I’ll be on the Acoustic Basement stage, and in the spirit of that stage and camaraderie amongst artists, I figured I would try to pay homage while putting my spin on the songs. I’m a newcomer to the Vans Warped Tour so I wasn’t too familiar with a lot of the artists, but after checking out the talent I am even more excited to be a part of the tour.”
American Opera’s latest song and video entitled “Sand & Seed” is available for free download for the time being on Bandcamp and can also be purchased on iTunes. The song is scheduled to appear in his soon to be released LP, “Small Victories.”
American Opera will be posting a new cover every Wednesday from a different band on the 2015 tour. So far, he has made this endeavor seem nothing but promising.
