Welcome back to where our own personal musical tastes have a chance to collide:  Singles Mingle.  This week, we’ll take a look at everything from pop to metal, and even a song that is most likely an attempt to justify divorcing Zooey Deschanel.

Every Friday AudioPhix writers roundup to share our favorite audio-based entertainment from the week that was.

Typically, our song selections will explode your mind so don’t be shocked if… well… your mind is exploded. Here are some selections from a few of our esteemed writers for your audio pleasure.

Diet Cig – “Pool Boyz”

Pop-punk has seen a recent resurgence in the music scene, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Diet Cig is a two piece from New Paltz, New York that has managed to capture that 90’s era, under produced sound on their EP, Over Easy. “Pool Boyz” stands out among the 5 song album. Singer Alex Luciano’s imperfect vocals, and 3 chord static melody hum warmly to the beat of Noah Bowman’s drums. Occasional outbursts of bass heavy distortion add layers to the short, insanely catchy song. While Diet Cig are still young to the scene, it’s going to be interesting to see how they grow with time.
